Sports Mentorship for Youth

Sports mentorship for youth

Sports Buddies connects young people with mentors through group activities that promote a healthy, active lifestyle. This program uses sports mentorship for youth as a powerful tool to build confidence, character, and meaningful relationships.

Whether you’re shooting hoops, learning golf, or trying rock climbing for the first time, mentorship through sports creates the perfect setting for impactful relationships to grow naturally.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Matches attend facilitated events every other Saturday organized by Big Brothers Big Sisters staff to minimize cost and complexity for families and volunteers alike. Activities include:

  • Soccer and flag football games
  • Martial arts and boxing sessions
  • Rock climbing and hiking
  • Yoga and fitness clubs
  • Special events with guest athletes, and more!

FOR MENTORS // GAME ON, GIVE BACK

Sports Buddies is a built-in community for active adults who want to volunteer and make a real difference alongside their peers. We take care of the logistics—you just show up, get moving, and be a supportive mentor. No athletic skills are required, just a willingness to play and show up consistently for a young person who needs someone on their team.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • 18 years or older
  • Pass a background check
  • Commit to at least one year in the program

FOR MENTEES // IT’S MORE THAN SPORTS

It’s access. It’s confidence. It’s connection. Youth sports mentorship helps build your child’s self-esteem and a sense of belonging in a fun, active group setting with their Big. When you’re playing on the same team or trying something new together, trust and friendship form effortlessly!

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Ages 9-13 years
  • Interested in sports or active play (No prior athletic experience required)
  • Commit to at least one year in the program
