Grant Spotlight: The Community Foundation

The Community Foundation has granted Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Empire a Community Impact Grant for $25,000, bringing the total amount of funding from the Riverside-based foundation to $60,000 over the past three years.

The multi-year grant allows Big Brothers Big Sisters to reflect, learn and take action in developing short and long-term sustainable solutions to the challenges in volunteer recruitment efforts.

Nearly 80 percent of youth who come to Big Brothers Big Sisters in need of a mentor are boys ages 6 to 16. Right now, there are more than 200 boys on the wait list. This year’s funding from The Community Foundation will help Big Brothers Big Sisters with our goal to find each of them a mentor who can be a consistent presence in their lives and help them reach their full potential.

To achieve this goal, we’re launching an inaugural Shaping Up for the Future mentoring campaign in early 2018 in partnership with local barbershops. We’re teaming up with barbershops in the Rancho Cucamonga and Riverside areas to find men interested in becoming volunteer mentors with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The Community Foundation serves Riverside and San Bernardino Counties by providing grants to nonprofit organizations that are doing important work in health and human services, youth and families, arts and culture, education, and for civic and environmental benefit.

2016-17 grant goal: $2 million
Current progress: $1,154,492*
